Arterio Morris arrested for rape, removed from Kansas basketball team

According to the online records of the Douglas County (Kansas) District Court, Arterio Morris, a guard for the Kansas men's basketball team, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with one count of rape.

According to a number of reports, Morris's participation in the KU basketball program has been terminated. On September 15, the school removed Morris from the program permanently. After the Kansas men's basketball program became aware of the charges made against Arterio Morris, the player was immediately suspended from the team.

According to KU head coach Bill Self, who was quoted in The Kansas City Star, "We are now aware that he has been arrested and charged, and he was dismissed from the program." We are unable to make any additional comments at this time due to the fact that this is an ongoing legal process.

The encounter that allegedly led to the rape charge occurred on August 26th, according to the complaint. After spending one year at Texas, Morris, 20, has decided to transfer to the University of Kansas beginning in April. According to the Associated Press, he just recently agreed to a plea deal that will put an end to a minor assault case in the state of Texas.

The misdemeanor assault case originated from an event that occurred in June 2022 and involved an ex-girlfriend. Morris was first charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail, for the incident in question.

According to the Associated Press, Morris, who had started at the University of Texas in the autumn of 2022, submitted a no-contest plea after multiple trial delays, which resulted in a Class C assault misdemeanor and a fine of $362. Before making the move, Morris, who had been named a McDonald's All-American in the past, appeared in 38 games for the Longhorns during the 2022–2023 season.
