According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the event took place on Friday just before 2:00 p.m. local time. At that time, deputies were called to an unincorporated part of Largo, which is located in the Tampa Bay area. There, they discovered the body of the victim, who was later identified as Sabrina Peckham, floating in a waterway. The body of a lady who was found in the jaws of a 13-foot alligator in Largo, Florida, on Saturday was determined to be that of a 41-year-old woman, according to the authorities.
According to the CBS station WTSP, a neighbor named JaMarcus Bullard found the victim as it was being held by an alligator and immediately dialed 911. "It (the alligator) lifted up out of the water with the body, like it was just clamped onto it, and it like swam backwards, like, under to the bottom of the canal to the other side," Bullard said. "It (the alligator) swam backwards, like, under to the bottom of the canal to the other side." "I just couldn't believe it was real," he said further. "I just couldn't believe it."
According to the sheriff's office, deputies together with officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived to the scene and "humanely killed" the alligator. After afterwards, a diving team went into the canal and pulled Peckham's remains out. There was no further information provided regarding the events that led up to the discovery being made public. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the investigation into the case is still ongoing, and the medical examiner is still attempting to identify the method in which she passed away as well as the cause of death.
A two-year-old kid was reported missing in March in the adjacent city of St. Petersburg. Two days later, the boy's mother was discovered dead in the apartment that the family shared.
